FIREFIGHTER ROTATION
Kelly shift schedule calendar
Kelly schedules reduce average scheduled hours by adding a Kelly day to a repeating firefighter rotation. Several departments use different versions, so the exact sequence must be checked locally.
How the rotation works
PayCheck AI includes a common nine-day pattern: 24 hours on, 24 off, repeated three times, followed by four days off. Use the custom rotation when your department follows another Kelly cycle.
Choose the real first day of the cycle. A day-based generator then carries the complete work-and-rest sequence across weeks, months and year boundaries without resetting on Monday.
Who commonly uses it
Fire departments using 24-hour tours and a recurring Kelly day to manage average hours.
The shift names and hours can be changed before generation. Individual overtime, training, leave or cover shifts can be added afterward without changing the base rotation.
Hours, overtime and pay
Enter the actual start time, end time, unpaid break, hourly rate and overtime multiplier. PayCheck AI totals the scheduled hours and produces an independent gross-pay estimate. Add night, weekend or other allowances when they apply.
What to verify
“Kelly schedule” is not one universal sequence. Confirm the cycle length, platoon start date and designated Kelly day before generating a year.
Common questions
Are all Kelly schedules identical?
No. Kelly schedules vary by department and labor agreement. Always compare the preset with the roster issued by your department.
Can I build a different Kelly cycle?
Yes. Enter one complete local cycle in the custom day-based rotation and repeat it through the year.
Planning and pay estimates only. Confirm the roster, labor agreement and local rules with the employer or a qualified adviser.
